One of the main goals of 2D Con has always been to promote and support the gaming industry. Throughout our eleven year history we have worked with other events that share in that goal.
Our resident DJ and mental health activist Theology believes that "we can do so much more united than divided" and I share that belief. Events are stronger when they work together and while competition is natural it should be healthy, not harmful.
In the last month we have assisted with three large events. I want to highlight the events themselves and the 2D Con staff that went above and beyond in making this goal and belief a reality.
The 2D Con team are far more than just convention staff. They are my closest friends and pillars in the community. I'd love to thank each of them individually for everything they do, but that would require more text than every Stephen King novel combined. I can not overstate how amazing this team is.
Minecraft Weekend
With the large amount of video game movies in production and our recent assistance in promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3, 2D Con was asked to help promote the Minecraft Movie. Our team came up with a full weekend of Minecraft content including a community night on our Discord.
We also helped with the Minecraft pop-up at the Mall of America on one of the busiest days of the year. The event was held in the Huntington Bank Rotunda on a Saturday during Spring Break. Our team created decor, setup gaming stations with various Minecraft games and assisted with line management.
The event was absolutely packed. It was a great feeling to help bring such a cool event to life.
Midwest Gaming Classic
Just a few very short days after the Minecraft weekend we packed our bags and headed to Milwaukee for Midwest Gaming Classic (MGC). My favorite event of the year, aside from 2D Con Prime of course. Midwest Gaming Classic is an absolutely massive event with a lot of heart and more gaming than you can handle. If you're a fan of 2D Con Prime I recommend attending.
Midwest Gaming Classic shares a venue with a large technology conference called Cypher Con. Our friends Guys Games and Beer host their room at both events. A few of us headed out early and helped them get everything up and running before Cypher Con opened their doors.
We have had a presence at MGC for a few years now, but this was the largest team that we have had at any non 2D Con hosted event. In total, twenty-five 2D Con staff made their way across the border to help anywhere we could. We had staff in nearly every area of the convention.
I am super grateful to Dan, Chris and everyone else at MGC for the opportunity and look forward to a continued partnership.
Midwest Gaming Classic 2026 will take place April 24-26, 2026 at the Baird Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
VGM Con
Right after Midwest Gaming Classic our team started getting ready for VGM Con, a local video game music convention. VGM Con is part music festival, part convention and is hosted by a wonderful group of people.
2D Con hosted VGM Cons video game room. We wanted to really embrace the vibe of the convention and put a focus on bringing music and rhythm games alongside some more popular titles such as Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart.
Our friend and guitarist from 2D Con 2025 guest Lords of the Trident, Brian Koenig played some absolutely killer guitar renditions of video game music throughout the day on Saturday and provided the perfect ambiance. Late night once the rest of the convention slowed down we hosted karaoke.
Outside of the game room our community manager NiteVolt performed live for their first time on the conventions Underground Stage.
VGM Con 2026 will take place April 17-19, 2026 at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth, MN
More Road Shows
Overall this was a very busy month for the 2D Fam. We're taking a much needed break but have many more road shows in the future.
